Jon

So I know this is kind of random, but I'm really grateful for Jon. I'm sometimes sad that we're not all lovey-dovey like some couples but more like best friends... I mean... I call him a hoe-bag for the fun of it...

When I'm around annoying people I'm like 10 times more grateful for him. We feel all confused with what to do with ourselves when the other isn't around...

We bicker like crazy, but it's fun. It's like play fighting... sometimes its real but we seem to get over that pretty easy... as soon as one of us (usually Jon) realizes he's totally trippin'. Its weird thought because my family thinks we're serious and they're always trying to solve the problem for us... like if Jon drinks all my water, like he always does... they try to get us a second glass so we wont fight... I'm like... we're just being goof-balls... its fun... they never seem to get it... probably never will...

I think our relationship is the best thing ever. I'm so glad I get to spend the rest of my life, and all eternity with my best friend.

General Conference Weekend in a Nutshell

One of our favorite times of year... General Conference weekend. Sitting around the house for two days, being both lazy and edified all at the same time. Fantastic! We made this really yummy Rustic Italian Flatbread and it lasted two days. Saturday night we made individual pizzas and bread sticks and then today we had a ranch chicken pizza for lunch. We took some pictures of course, and here's the recipe as well. Its a combo of Rustic Italian Flatbread (a recipe I found on the Sunday Supper website), Sundell Chicken Ranch Pizza, and the pizza we use to make back-in-the-day.

Dough - Herbed Flatbread
(Makes 16)
* 1 cup warm water (about 110 degrees)
* 1 teaspoon active dry yeast (from one 1/4-ounce envelope)
* 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for surface and hands
* 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for bowl
* Coarse salt
* 1 teaspoon sugar
* 1 large egg whisked with 1 tablespoon water, for egg wash
* Sea salt, for sprinkling
* 1/4 cup fresh rosemary or thyme (or a combination)

Directions
1. Place water in a medium bowl; sprinkle with yeast. Let stand until foamy, about 5 minutes. Stir in flour, oil, 2 teaspoons coarse salt, and the sugar. Stir until dough forms.
2. Turn out dough onto a lightly floured surface; knead with floured hands until smooth, about 2 minutes. Transfer to a lightly oiled bowl, and cover with plastic wrap. Let dough stand in a warm, draft-free place until it doubles in volume, about 1 hour.
3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

For Rustic Italian Flatbread
4. Divide dough into 16 equal pieces; cover with plastic wrap. Roll out 1 piece to roughly 4 by 10 inches on a lightly floured surface; transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with egg wash; sprinkle with sea salt and herbs. Repeat with remaining dough, arranging 4 pieces per sheet.
5. Bake, rotating sheets halfway through, until crisp and golden, 18 to 22 minutes. Let cool on sheets on a wire rack.

For Pizza
6. Roll the dough out on a pizza stone and bake for 10 minutes.
7. Take it out and put the toppings on then bake until your pizza looks like its ready to eat... like the cheese is melted.

Toppings
Cooked Chicken Breast
Ranch dip - use the packet - spread some on the dough and then put some on the cooked chicken
Jalapeno Peppers (cut out the seeds and the white rim on the inside... stuff is hot)
Mozzarella
Feta
Green Onions
Sliced Ham
Garlic Salt
Salt
Pepper

Talk about delicious!!! We ate the whole pizza for lunch! Holy heffers right! Ha! Holy... General Conference... Hahaha... I crack me up!

OK... I have more to say on conference but it's late so I'll finish later.

Euro Toast

Today we took a trip to the Mt. Timpanogus Caves. It's about 20 minutes, and a fourth of a tank of gas, south of Salt Lake City. Unfortunately every park in Utah costs to get in. What happened to free parks? Why does Utah insist on making every park cost? Seriously, why? Anyhow, we made a random turn and started heading south hoping we'd find a way to the great salt lake but it just never got any closer. Like one of those crazy dreams where you run toward something but you never get any closer. Man, I hate those. Anyhow, I got tired of driving so we turned toward the freeway and then I saw it... My old place of employ. The Good Earth Natural Food. So, in an effort to make sure the trip wasn't a complete waste we stopped.

It was there that we discovered, or rediscovered should I say, the tasty, the delicious Cinnamon Swirl Bread, and we made the purchase! We were going to have Italian Flat Bread, but I couldn't figure out what to make with it, so this was the obvious solution.

Anyhow, we got home, put some eggs, milk, sugar, and nutmeg in a bowl, swirled it around a bit, dunked the bread and put the little buggers on the grill. They were super delicious. And I hope this post makes you a little hungry. Maybe my next food... hahaha... I just put "food toast"... I meant to write food post... anyhow, maybe my next will be a little more exciting.

Our New Home

Photo by Krista Huff

We'd like to welcome you to our humble abode! The new casa de Jon y Erika's blog. Also known as HUFF TOWN! Oh yeah!

We finally had to trash erikahuff.blogspot.com. It was seriously like a married couple living in two separate houses... every time you want to wear something you realize its at the other house. Going back and forth was just too much of a hassle. Plus this new place is ours. Mine and Jons, though, lets face it... I'm the only one who's blogging here.

Anyhow, I want to be more involved and more creative with this one than my last. So hopefully I can come up with some cool stuff. We're going to start taking a lot of random photos, so there's that, oh, and cooking. We decided that we're going to be more creative there. And well, just everything. We want this to be fun and interesting. So I'm glad you could be here from the start and join us on this new path of... well, not so much enlightenment but whatever...

This picture was taken in Seattle after we hiked from the ferry terminal to the Space Needle, which isn't as far as you'd think. It was actually a really nice walk. There's this huge fountain by it and we ran up and touched it... the goal was without getting wet. Jon got soaked, I was only lightly sprinkled. But it was pretty awesome and probably the highlight of our trip. Oh, and Jon did save me from a bum taking a leak on a building. I almost stepped in his stream. Luckily Jon saw it and pulled me out of the way. THANK YOU JON!!! Anyhow, I'm off for the night. Peace out, cha'all.

Alice in Wonderland

A few weeks ago Jon's brother got married, their theme: Alice in Wonderland. We had purchased some props for the dessert table at the rehearsal dinner, so after we got home we wanted to put them to some good use... hence our Alice in Wonderland photo shoot. The hair was done by Gorana Majstorovic. A young hair and make up artist in Salt Lake City who's totally amazing! She also did the hair and makeup for our Run Away Bride photo shoot. The model, Jordan, did an amazing job as well and we were grateful that she was so down for this crazy little shoot! And last but not least, the rabbit, Olive, who is actually up for adoption at the Humane Society in Murray, UT. He's so sweet! He was a little worried about being in an unfamiliar place but we got to take him home and by the next morning he was totally fearless and ready to explore! So thank you to Carl Arky of the Humane Society of Utah, for allowing us the opportunity to work with this sweet little guy, and thanks to everyone else who helped out (including our brother-in-law Ryan for taking care of Olive during the shoot).

Okay, so I don't know if you've ever been to Wheeler Farm but there's like everything there. We actually want to do another shoot there in the future. Anyhow, we didn't want to tire Olive out so we wrapped him up and started doing some just random fun stuff around the farm. There were a ton of cute photos but these are the ones we selected for the blog. I love the water stuff. We had a ton but mine was a little more grainy than Jon's so we only posted his. But I think I want to do another shoot in water. It was just so stinking fun!

A Portrait of an Artist... and his process

Jon and I have been working on a very exciting project. We came up with the idea one day after we had moved to Utah. We were lingering around Barnes & Noble, passing the time when I came across an autobiography on a couple who were total hippies back-in-the-day. They talked about how they lived their lives, how they fell in love, how they created, and so on. I was totally inspired, not just by film or photography but by the arts as a whole. I told Jon that I wanted to do a documentary on an artist... and as we hadn't done any filmmaking since Humidity, just four months prior, we thought it was the perfect time.

Luckily a few months before my sister had introduced us to her good friends, Jeff and Jen Hein. Jeff is and artist of amazing talent. When we met with him again after the Barnes & Noble trip, we pitched him the idea and he thought it sounded like a great experience. It was really perfect timing too because he had just started a very difficult project that would utilize his process to the fullest. This documentary will follow Jeff from start to finish of the painting. We will see his process of studying, creating and recreating in the effort to fully understand the subjects for his final masterpiece. As so many artists photograph their subjects and recreate it in a painting, Jeff's process of working from live subjects is really unique, it's like the lost art behind the art... it's very interesting!

We've been working on it about a month now, and it's looking great. We still do have quite a long way to go though. I've been working on a teaser to get it going. I should have it finished in the next few weeks. I would love to have it sooner but we have a number of projects going on right now. Anyhow, keep an eye out for it and thanks for reading.

Runaway Bride

Our first major photo shoot in Salt Lake City, UT. We had a really great time and are really excited to do more!!!! Let me know what you think... I love me some comments. :)
